Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 9, 2026

Overview

VeritasAI is a Chrome extension that fact-checks news articles in real time. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we handle, how we handle it, and what we do not do.

What We Collect

We do not collect any personally identifiable information.

VeritasAI does not require an account, does not track users, and does not store any information that could identify you.

Article Text

When you click "Analyze this page," the visible text of the article you are reading is sent to our backend server for processing. This text is used solely to extract and verify factual claims. It is never stored, logged, or associated with any user identity.

Anonymized Analytics

We collect anonymized, aggregate usage data to improve the product. This includes:

This data contains no article content, no URLs, no user identifiers, and no personally identifiable information of any kind.

Shared Fact-Check Links

If you choose to generate a shareable link, the fact-check results for that specific article are stored on our server for 7 days, after which they are automatically deleted. Shared links contain no user information — only the fact-check output for the article.

Extension Settings

Your preferences (e.g. lean label visibility, claim count, auto-analyze toggle, domain lists) are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's chrome.storage.sync API. These settings are synced across your Chrome profile by Google. We never access or transmit your settings.

Claim History

Your article history (titles, URLs, credibility scores, confidence distributions) is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API. This data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to our servers.

What We Do Not Collect

Third-Party Services

VeritasAI uses the following third-party services to power its fact-checking pipeline:

Anthropic (Claude API)

Article text and extracted claims are sent to Anthropic's API for AI processing. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to data processed through their API. See: anthropic.com/privacy

Brave Search API

Claims are verified using Brave's Search API. Search queries are sent to Brave's servers. Brave's privacy policy applies. See: brave.com/privacy/search

No other third-party services receive your data.
